Hi! I'm the del.icio.us community manager intern and I'm always happy to see library people thinking about del.icio.us, so I try to help out where I can. If you decide to use del.icio.us, it's easy to export your data - with the API, the RSS & JSON feeds, and in standard browser-bookmarks-format - to make a backup copy of your guides on your website. There are also some tools to help you do that, including http://slashlinks.eyebeamresearch.org/home and http://nanovivid.com/projects/mysqlicious/.
